Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions clients often ask before starting counselling.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It can help you better understand yourself, develop coping strategies, and make meaningful changes in your life.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to counselling, your goals, and what you hope to get out of our work together. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit.

How long is a session?

You may book a 50, 75, or 100 minute session. If you felt your appointment was too short or too long, you may adjust the time for future sessions to what works best for you.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone’s journey is different. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others choose to continue longer-term. We’ll check in regularly to make sure counselling is meeting your needs.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes. I offer both in-person and secure virtual sessions, so you can choose what feels most comfortable and convenient for you. Please contact me for additional information regarding in-person options. See Virtual Schedule Here

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. What you share in counselling is confidential. The only exceptions are rare situations where I am legally or ethically required to break confidentiality (for example, if there is risk of harm to yourself or others). [View informed Consent Form **insert link]

Are sessions covered by insurance?

Many extended health benefit plans cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC / CCC). Since every plan is different, please check with your provider to confirm your coverage.

How much does a session cost?

My fee is $150 per 50-minute session. You will receive a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement if eligible. View Rates

What issues do you work with?

I support clients with a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to trauma, life transitions, stress & anxiety, depression, self-esteem & confidence, depression, relationship challenges, grief & loss, chronic medical issues.

How do I book a session?

You can book a session here, reach out via our contact page, or send me an email directly to [email protected].

What is your cancellation policy?

I kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows others who may need the spot to book. Cancellations with less notice may be subject to the full session fee.

How do I pay for sessions?

Credit card, apple pay, link, and e-transfer are all acceptable methods of payment. Payment is due at the end of each session, and receipts are provided for insurance reimbursement.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced rates?

There are a limited number of spots at a reduced rate for those experiencing financial hardship. Please reach out to discuss availability.

Can I book a single session, or do I need to commit long-term?

You’re welcome to book one session to see how it feels. There’s no obligation to commit to ongoing counselling. You can also schedule a free 15 minute consult call to see if we are a good fit.

What approaches do you use??

I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches – such as, somatics / mind-body connection, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness, existential therapy, person-centred therapy, Adlerian perspectives with community integration, and family systems work focused on breaking generational trauma. Each session is tailored to your unique needs, ensuring a compassionate and holistic path toward growth and healing.

Do you give advice in counselling?

Rather than giving direct advice, my role is to help you explore your own thoughts and feelings, so you can make choices that feel right for you.

What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?

Strong feelings are a natural part of healing. The counselling space is designed to support you in expressing emotions safely.

What if I become emotional during a session?
